Professional Membership Applications, Curricula, & Transcripts

 

Take a look at the Overview of the AOBTA 500 Hour Curriculum (the minimal educational requirement for the ABT profession).

Professional Membership Levels

Certified Practitioner An AOBTA®-CP 
  • is nationally certified as an NCCAOM Diplomate of ABT (U.S.) or STAO-CST (Canada);
  • or completed the 500 Hour Curriculum in an AOBTA® COSP School or Program;
  • or has provided evidence of completion of the 500-Hour Curriculum taught by either an AOBTA® Certified Instructor, AOBTA® Certified Practitioner, or a non-AOBTA® affiliated apprenticeship program or school;
  • Certified Practitioner candidates that did not complete their training at an AOBTA® COSP School or Program, will have their application packet reviewed by the AOBTA® Peer Review Committee, which will determine the candidate's eligibility for membership;
  • Certified Practitioner is a professional, voting level of membership.

Registered Instructor An AOBTA®-RI 
  • must first be an AOBTA® Certified Practitioner;
  • has completed at least three (3) years of active professional ABT practice;
  • has at least 150 hours teaching experience of ABT/OM (may include Teaching Assisting) over a minimum of a two year period;
  • is able to teach in fluent English, and exhibits a high degree of knowledge and understanding of the subject matter that he/she teaches;
  • has had an AOBTA® Certified Instructor observe him/her teaching a class;
  • and their application has passed a formal review by the Registered Instructor Committee;
  • Registered Instructor is a professional, voting level of membership.

Annual Dues: $150

Certified Instructor An AOBTA®-CI 
  • must first be an AOBTA® Certified Practitioner;
  • has completed at least five (5) years of active practice, after graduating from an approved ABT program, with a minimum of 500 treatments/year;
  • is able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology;
  • has a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience;
  • is able to teach in fluent English;
  • is qualified to teach all aspects of the CMT segments of the AOBTA® 500-hour curriculum;
  • exhibits a higher degree of knowledge and understanding than a Certified Practitioner of his/her form of bodywork;
  • and has passed an oral and practical interview by the Certified Instructor Review Committee;
  • Certified Instructor is a professional, voting level of membership.

Council of Schools & Programs

(COSP)

  • Schools and Programs that teach an Asian Bodywork Therapy program are eligible for membership in the AOBTA Council of Schools and Programs (COSP) if that curriculum meets AOBTA standards.  
  • There is an application and review process that determines if the school or program meets eligibility requirements.

Annual Dues: $200 (20 or fewer students) or $300 (more than 20 Students)
